Triangle Chapter Report – April 2012

RALEIGH, NC – (NCRSCCA) – The April Triangle Chapter meeting wasn’t as well attended as the March one, but we had a great time, with good food, lively discussion, and good news.  The good news came in the form of race results. Steve Rose was there and he told us about his 1st and 2nd place finishes in IT-7 at Carolina Motorsports Park the preceding weekend.  Steve was pretty pumped when he told us about getting some driving tips that resulted in his first lap under three minutes there.  Way to go, Steve!  Then Chuck Hines told us all that he took back-to-back firsts in ITS, while Neal Harrison, who could not make the meeting, had done the same in IT-A.  We congratulated them all! Late in the evening we even saw some in-car video from Mr. Hines.

Triangle Chapter Report – March 2012

RALEIGH, NC – (NCRSCCA) – The March meeting of the Triangle Chapter was surprisingly well-attended, given that we had our first racing event just three days away.  Steve Keadle, our Treasurer and Chief Steward for the “March Memories” event told us that there were 273 cars pre-registered and that things seemed to be moving along nicely.  That energized the crowd, as did the discussion of the inaugural Tarheel Cup Pro Series races which were to be a part of it.  Series Pointskeeper, Steve Rose, was on-hand and he assured us that they were ready to go.

Triangle Chapter Report – February 2012

RALEIGH, NC – (NCRSCCA) – The Triangle Chapter started off 2012 with a bang!  Our first meeting of the year was so well attended that it was standing room only by the time the meeting started.  And what an assortment of folks we had!

Tom Long was there, fresh from his recent drive at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, where he helped put the Dempsey Racing Mazda RX-8 into tenth place in the GT class.  Carl Cason, Jr., who crewed for the I-Moto Mazdaspeed 3s, also came, along with his dad, Carl Sr.  Good to see you guys!  And, while we are on the subject of Daytona, Dennis Shaw, who raced Daytona four times during the 1980’s with Team Highball, was there to congratulate Tom and Carl on the showings their teams made. Dennis was not alone, however. He brought along long-time members (1967!) Sam Fouse and Dan Robson, who had crewed for him “back in the day.”

Triangle Chapter Report – December 2011

RALEIGH, NC – (NCR-SCCA) – The last Triangle Chapter meeting of the year was held at El Rodeo in the Townridge Shopping Center in Raleigh on Wednesday, December 7th.  It was well-attended as we filled the upstairs room almost to capacity, to eat, drink, chat, and watch in-car video of Tom Long in the Freedom Autosport Miata at the Grand-Am race at Mid-Ohio in September.  They delivered their 4th Grand Am Street Tuner title to Mazda this year. And you can view a great father-and-son video here, http://www.grand-am.com/teams/team.cfm?series=k&tid=1642, wherein Glenn talks about getting started in racing with the SCCA and continuing with his son in a professional series.  Unfortunately, there was a problem getting the DVD player to pass the sound through to El Rodeo’s big-screen TV, but we still saw plenty of passing by the number 25 car, even if it was silent.

Triangle Chapter Report – November 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NCR-SCCA) – The Triangle Chapter met the first Wednesday of the month, November 2nd, and we had a really great time. Mark Senior brought his computer (complete with HDMI port) and treated us to excellent in-car video from the Goblins Go and the 24-hour Chump Car race he participated in.  What a hoot!

Triangle Chapter Report – October 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NCR-SCCA) – The Triangle Chapter met, as usual, at its favorite watering hole, the El Rodeo restaurant in the Townridge Shopping Center in Raleigh, where Pleasant Valley crosses Glenwood Avenue.  We had a good time swapping stories, eating and drinking, even if technical difficulties prevented us from seeing the in-car video that Mark Senior brought on his computer.  Apparently there was a computer cable/interface mismatch that will be corrected before the next time (I hope!).  Thanks for trying, Mark!

Triangle Chapter Report – August 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NCR-SCCA) – The August meeting of the Triangle Chapter was a really great time!  About a score of us gathered at El Rodeo in Raleigh to eat, drink, and watch video of the recent Lemons race at VIR.  Who would have guessed that so many Chapter members had taken part?  Mark Senior and his son Ryan were on one team. Blair “Pepe” Stitt was on another, along with Steve Rose and West Chapter members Heather Powers and Bill Foster and a cast of dozens, apparently. And they had stories to tell.

Triangle Chapter Report – July 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NCR SCCA) — The July 6, 2011 meeting of the Triangle Chapter was fairly well attended, given that many folks were off on vacation over the Independence Day holiday.  Special thanks go out to Member-at-Large Neal Harrison, who showed up in a huge neck-and-chin brace, having had back surgery just that morning.  Yup, that’s right…he’d been under the knife less than 12 hours before coming out to join us! It was amazing that he was able to stay with us for even a few minutes; which it turned out was all he was able to do, pain killers or no pain killers.  Even with wife Bibi driving, it was just too taxing for Neal to stay.  But, he assured us, he’ll be back in a race car and chasing the SARRC championship in ITA as early as next month.  Good Luck, Neal!

Triangle Chapter Report – June 2011

RALEIGH, NC (NCR SCCA) — The June meeting of the Triangle Chapter was held at our usual spot, El Rodeo restaurant on Pleasant Valley in Raleigh on the First Day of the month, Wednesday, June 1, 2011.  We had an excellent turnout, even though we once again had no in-car video to share. (C’mon you guys! Are those cameras broken or what?).
