Triangle Chapter Report – May 2013

The May Triangle Chapter meeting was very well-attended.  In fact, we had so many attendees it was standing-room only and many of the members were wishing we were back upstairs in the bigger bar area.  But we got everybody seated and then we all enjoyed a video on the big screen.  It was the view from inside the #11 IT7 car of Steve Rose, pounding his way from 5th to 3rd in IT7, at the Jim Stark Memorial Double SARRC at Roebling Road last weekend. It was even more enjoyable for the viewers because Justin Deffenbaugh, who had crewed for Steve, had edited video before he brought it and added some choice commentary to the action on camera.  You can see it on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZarBQlTDbfQ&feature=share.  Thanks, Justin!  Well done, Steve!

We started the meeting with round-robin introductions because there were so many new faces present.  We had a couple of new members joining us for the first time, Kyle Jackson and William Wallace, both in the Air Force.  Welcome guys!  And we had a couple of new prospective members, Kyle Hays and Sebastian Zea.  Hope to see more of you!  Contact the Chapter Coordinator or any of the new friends you guys made to get on a crew list to attend our next race, or any race for that matter!  And we even had one prospective new member who hasn’t yet made up her mind – Brock and Colleen Nicholson brought their granddaughter Leah to dinner with us.  Just tell grandpa when you want to learn to drive fast, sweetie.  I’m sure that can be arranged!  But new friends weren’t the only attraction at the meeting.  We saw some old friends who’d been absent for awhile, too.  Pablo Escalera was there, looking very dapper in his new beard and mustache.  He’s hunting for information about working the famous Pike’s Peak Hill Climb.  Can anyone help him out?

The business portion of the meeting was short.  The only topic was the rebuilding of the scale room half of the tech shed up at VIR.  Same Fouse is heading that up and he gave a short report.  He’s found a source for the siding we need and construction will begin after the upcoming Double SARRC/Double MARRS race.  Contact Sam (he’s a Member at Large, so his info is on the Contact page of the Region’s web site).  Also, Rex Deffenbaugh, the RE, gave a short summation of the recently completed Double National Majors event.  It was quite successful, with over 500 entries, and over 250 cars.  We even earned some praise from the folks from the National Office for how well we carried off the event.  So, hats off to all the great NC Region volunteers who made that happen!

The next race is just around the corner, literally less than a week away from when I write this, so you don’t want to miss it.  And you won’t want to miss the next Triangle Chapter meeting either.  Who knows whom you might meet or what great video you might see.  So I’ll see you there, Wednesday, June 5th… or at the races!

Triangle Chapter Coordinator
