To our valued Track Renters:
VIR will be performing track maintenance this summer, tentatively from June 29th – July 31st. Those groups who have been issued Track Rental Agreements with VIR still have firm event dates. Those with dates that are traditionally held during our tentative closure have been contacted.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers, and please be assured the course of action we are taking is to ensure that VIR maintains the high standards that our loyal customers expect and demand.
Nominations for RE, Secretary and the two Member-at-Large positions (currently Held by Heather Powers and Blair Stitt) for terms beginning in 2016 were due by the end of the November Board meeting, Wednesday, November 18th. None of the Current office holders, Rex Deffenbaugh, Steve Rose, Heather and Blair, opted to run again. There was only one nomination received for each open office, Sam Fouse for RE, James Shanks for Secretary, Heather Clark and Morgan Mehler for Member-at-Large, so the Board accepted those nominations by acclamation, since there was no need to mail ballots and tabulate results. This will save the Region at least $375 in postage. The new officers will be installed at the annual meeting and awards dinner in Wilmington, at the Coastal Convention Center, Saturday, January 9, 2016.
NCR congratulates Christina Peterson, champion in E Street Ladies, and Brittany “Nikki” Edwards, champion in F Street Prepared Ladies, for their achievement in the Solo National Championships at Lincoln, Nebraska, September 7-11, 2015. These two well-known competitors in our Region took top honors in those classes. But perhaps what’s even more amazing is that their two rivals, the runners-up who finished right behind them, are also Region members. Congratulations also to Jennifer Bedell in ESL and Jennifer Vance in FSPL for their fine showing as well. Details of their achievement can be found in the November issue of SportsCar (Vol. 73. No. 11) which should have been delivered to all members by this time.
Anna Crissman named SCCA’s
Worker of the Year in Timing & Scoring
Congratulations to NCR’s Chief of Timing and Scoring, Anna Crissman, a 15-year member of the Club come January, for her well-deserved recognition in the specialty she does so well. We knew she was good; now everybody else does too!
And we have more of the stories of personal sacrifice and outstanding achievement, even in the face of adversity, that make the SCCA Runoffs famous…
Last weekend, August 21 – 23, the Marketing Committee for the Region tried a new tactic. Instead of trying to recruit new members at Car Shows and Cars-and-Coffee events, were the attendees have a wide variety of automotive interests, they decided to try reaching out to fans at the IMSA Tudor event at VIR. The thinking was, “Hey, these folks are ‘pre-qualified’. They paid money to see a sports car race. Maybe they’d like a chance to get even more involved.” So arrangements were made.
The North Carolina Region held its third annual picnic at North East Park in Gibsonville on Saturday the 8th of August and it was a blast. The weather couldn’t have been better, sunny, in the low 80’s, and no humidity to speak of, thanks to thunderstorms earlier in the week. The food was fabulous! Master Griller (and Chief Starter) James Buckberry (left) served up both hamburgers and hot dogs, with all the fixin’s. (I had two myself!) Barbecue chef (and Worker of the Year) Pete Romanowski prepared his most excellent pork and beans with green peppers and other secret ingredients, which literally got rave reviews. And everybody else brought an assortment of chips, potato salad, cole slaw, snacks, cookies, and even cake! We had over 35 people so there was lots of food. We ate well!
