Brian Edward Little, born on July 29, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 82, after a courageous 25-plus year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. (see full obituary here)
A passionate enthusiast of sports car building and racing, Brian was a devoted 60-year member of the Sports Car Club of America. He achieved notable success by winning several Southeast and Northeast Divisional Championships in the C-Sports and D-Sports car classifications. Beyond his accomplishments on the track, Brian was cherished for his generosity of spirit and vast knowledge, qualities that forged many lifelong friendships. The stories of his racing adventures were legendary, enriched by his warmth and humor.
Brian spent his early years in Ayden, North Carolina, where he graduated from Ayden High School. He furthered his education at North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His career began at Phillips Petroleum Company, with assignments in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Spartanburg, South Carolina. He later became a capital project engineer and manager at Hoechst Fibers, continuing his distinguished career with positions in Delaware City, Delaware, and Wilmington, North Carolina.
Music was another constant in Brian's life. From his youth, singing bass in his mother's choirs and choruses, to his participation with the NC State Men's Glee Club, music was always in his heart. For the past twenty years, he was a dedicated member of the Grace United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, where his voice and presence were beloved.
Brian was predeceased by his mother, Rosa Little Cook; his sister, Barbara Little Franklin; and his brother, Herbert Little. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Marion Sears Little; his son, Richard Edward Little, and his significant other, Robin McClanahan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Chip Rivers; and many cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Brian's life on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Grace United Methodist Church, located at 401 Grace Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. A reception will follow at the church, allowing family and friends to gather and share memories of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
Brian Edward Little will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, enduring friendships, and immeasurable contributions to the communities he loved. He will be dearly missed.
