North Carolina Region SCCA F&C

April 1, 2013

The date of the Oak Tree Double National has been CHANGED.  Go check your calendars now to see if you are available for the new date, April 19th – 21st, 2013.

Thanks to VIR and another car club being flexible, we were able to accommodate SCCA National’s insistance we change the event date to April 19th – 21st.

All of the paperwork and websites have been adjusted to reflect the new date.  If you have already pre-registered, we have adjusted your form and now expect you to honor your commitment to the new date (changing it would be too much trouble on our end).  If you are not able to attend the new date, please let us know.

BFGoodrich Tires VIR Super Tour: Oak Tree Double National

April 19th – April 21st

Plan now! No really. Plan now. The linked schedule below will help you figure out how to get the most out of your time off from the bill paying job. Friday, Saturday & Sunday. For this event only, you have a choice between getting your worker credit card punched or getting half of a double occupancy hotel room.  More details to follow.

Event Schedule

Flag meetings will be held every day in the SOUTH PADDOCK.

Make a Nasty-car move & hang a left and head South. The South Paddock might be better known to some of you as the place to go for Worker Camping. Disregard that the event schedule lists the meetings as being near the grid barn. It’s a lie, a LIE!

All 3 days the flag meeting will be at 7:15 followed by a full day of exciting national class qualifing and racing.  Expect to have some fun on & off track.

Register here or here. Check out the who’s who here. Don’t forget to let your illustrious Flag Chief(s) know if you have any particular requests or accomodations to be considered.

For those of you who keep up with such things, click here to take a gander at the Supps.

IF YOU WISH TO GET A ROOM FOR THE WEEKEND PLEASE REGISTER & MAKE THIS PREFERENCE KNOW BY SATURDAY APRIL 13th!

For this event only, you may opt for half of a double (2) occupancy room instead of getting your card punched for your daily worker credit.  Please identify a roommate or we’ll assign one to you as part of our New Friend Program.  This is an option to choose during the registration process or send Send Sara Snider an email, ssnider30@aol.com.  There’s also a check box for if you are camping or not. If you’ve already registered and didn’t choose the room option, but want to, send Sara Snider an email.

New Registration Location

Here is a PDF map showing the location of our new registration site. It can be a little tricky to find the first time, in the dark.  Notice the map shows the way to the wrong paddock if you are attending the Flag Meeting in the South Paddock.

Registration will be open:
Thursday 5pm – 9pm
Friday 7am – Noon
Saturday 7am – Noon
Sunday 7am – 11am

You have to have SCCA credentials to participate.  If you arrive before registration opens, you can enter VIR for free if your name is on the gate list.  Then you can get your credentials when registration opens.  Stay tuned for more information, as this may change too.

Get your name on the list by signing up online.

Regarding the variance between “National” & “Major”

From a knowledgeable source:

Right now the wording “National” is still acceptable. The name “National” will go away in 2014 or 2015 and there will be nothing but “Majors.” It’s going to be a little confusing for a little while…All regions will not be able to hold a Major/National event in 2014…in 2014 we will call it a Double Major and drop the National.

Tomato, tomahto.

Stewards Corner

(nothing new here so refresh yourself)

Want to push someone’s button?

VIR has made it clear, this year we have to make the drivers stay on the track. They don’t want drivers short-cutting turns and they’re pretty emphatic about it. In fact, our Board of Directors agreed to put the kibosh on short-cutting any turn. My notes from our meeting back in December were clear, any driver who even puts 2-wheels off at turns 6 or 8 will ‘Meet the Stewards’ for remedial driving instruction. A second offense and you can watch them load-up and head-out for their next event.

We still want you to hold your call if a car slides off or spins off and continues without contacting another car, the barriers, or otherwise causing trouble.  We still need to keep the net clear for emergencies.

Call all the controlled offs guys and gals! No hesitation no second thought or “next time”. We’ve changed the mindset of our Stewards and they’ll enforce the instructions from VIR Track Management!  So push that button and make that call.  Easy as…  “Control station six no-flag (wait for Control to answer) Car five-five short-cut turn driver’s left.”

Push the button and make the calls. Keep those drivers on course…

White (Distilled) Vinegar

Soooo…here’s another helpful tidbit of info that you might find interesting. If you want to save money & save your exposire to chemical type stuff, here’s a site that lists many of the things you can do with white distilled vinegar.

Apple Cider Vinegar

While on the topic of vinegar, how bout some of the old time favorite Apple Cider Vinegar? A personal favorite is from Bragg. While the old school way to ingest it is Apple Cider Vinegar+water+honey (ick, ick, ick) it can be drank (drunk, drunken?) a tad bit easier by adding it to juice. Adding it to citrus juices doesn’t seem to work all that well (think: drinking OJ after brushing your teeth). Find a sweet juice like the white grape varieties. It helps cut the sweet. If added to purple grape juice, wine anybody?

Of course…

Don’t forget everything you learned last season: sunblocking, hydrating with fluids & the foods you eat, bug blocking, helping out ye ol’ honey bee (not only for honey production but to pollinate oh, all the plants required for us to live life as we know it?)…

Orange Hoodies

It’s been heard there are still some, of varying sizes, left for your purchase. Supposedly it’s $15 for flaggers, $25 for non-flaggers. Prepare accordingly (to pay $25…).

FYI: Flag Chief Email Address

It’s been noted that some of you lovely folks get a “kick back” (usually from Mark’s email address) when sending an email to the flag chief address. Don’t fret. It makes it through to the “other end.” Ah, the wonders of technology that makes our lives simpler.
