North Carolina Region SCCA F&C

February something, 2013

Welcome 2013

Good News! The Ground Hog predicts an early spring and you can count on this since he’s a meteorologist and all… Time to gear up for March Memories!   Try on and stretch out those orange tipped whites.  Clean out and replenish that track bag (crumbled Grandma’s Cookies go great on ice cream).

Check out the NCR Website for the latest news from the election and awards banquet.  A quiz will be held later.

March Memories

March 9th & 10th, 2013 at VIR

Make sure you check the schedule as there have been some changes.   The Executive Board of Directors has decided to reduce the entry fee for the racers, which should boost participation.  It should yield some exciting races that you don’t want to miss.  You might even want to take a peak at the supps.

Attention Racers: Announcement from VIR about fuel

The following announcement was sent out via email by VIR regarding fuel available at the track. For additional information, click the link in the story or write to info@virnow.com

January 31, 2013

In an effort to better serve our Track Renters, Participants and VIR Club Members, we have made the decision to replace the 112-octane fuel in the North Paddock with 98-octane (260 GTX).  This is an unleaded fuel which is ethanol-free and for off-road and racing applications only.

We hope this switch will better serve our customers’ needs and make it more convenient for them by eliminating or reducing the need to bring drums of fuel to the track.  Of course, VIR will not enforce any restrictions against fuel grades we do not carry.

The following link will provide information from our website and rental contract and offers more information on the fuel available at VIR. http://virnow.com/about-vir/fuel/

As always, if you have any questions or comments about this change, please feel free to give us a call.

Sam Fouse elected as new Member-at-Large

By secret ballot, the NCR Board of Directors, per the ByLaws, elected Sam Fouse as Member-at-Large at their January 16, 2013 meeting, thus breaking the tie between Sam and Ron Gentry.

North Carolina Region Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner 2012

The NCR Annual meeting and awards dinner was held Saturday, January 5th, at Caffé Luna in Raleigh.  Over a hundred members attended and the festivities were in high gear.  The food was out of this world!  The buffet featured something for every one, from fresh fruit and cheese, through chilled salmon and shrimp cocktail, sliced ham, grilled sausage, steak, chicken, four kinds of pasta, asparagus and other veggies, and of course, salad. If you left hungry, it was your own fault! All drinks including beer and wines were included in the meal and that kept the conversation going until we went through the buffet line table-by-table. Many thanks to Bibi Tucker for setting all this up!

NCR Election Results

Here are the results of the recent BoD election:

John Lindquist defeated Sara Snider for Assistant Regional Executive

Blair Deffenbaugh was a run-away favorite for Member-at-Large

The other Member-at-Large seat is undecided. Ron Gentry and Sam Fouse tied in the popular vote. Per the Bylaws, the election must be decided by a runoff determined  by written ballot of the remaining Board of Directors.  The winner will be announced on or before the next Board meeting on  January 16th.

Steve Keadle ran unopposed for Treasurer

A Thanksgiving Message

Happy Thanksgiving!

On this wonderful Thanksgiving Day I just want to say:
Thanks to my lovely wife, Joni, for letting me play with the SCCA.

Thanks to the SCCA for giving everyday Americans access to the world of motorsports.
Thanks to motorsports for hosting sports car racing events at such awesome places like VIRginia International Raceway, Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans, Road America, Summit Point, Baltimore, Road Atlanta, Indy, and Circuit of the Americas.

Thanks to the events that attract some of the most amazing people in the world.
Thanks for the people who devote their talents, energy, and resources to their passion for excellence.

Thanks for the people who inspire creativity, innovation, and brilliance.
Thanks for the people who welcome each other as family; who live, love and laugh with each other all because of a common passion for motorsports.
Thanks for the people who care and support each other away from the track; who will ride life to the very end looking for the final checkered flag.
Thanks for all the people we encounter in our lives; each one is unique, just like the rest of us.

And thanks to YOU for being a part of it all.
