Celebrating her 45th anniversary with the SCCA, Bobby (Roberta) Champlin, SCCA member #2741, has been an active participant. She’s been a volunteer at many a race track, but local folks will remember her best for her smiling face on the Grid, or helping out at Registration and with hospitality duties at the Louella Cook Memorial SEDIV Double National or Double SARRC at Roebling Road. That’s no surprise since Louella was one of Bobby’s best friends and an active Club member when Bobby first joined up, back in the day.

Isn’t it time you tried an Autocross?

What an event! What a venue! Ever consider trying out autocross? Well, you should! The pair just put on by the Cape Fear Chapter at Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point is a good example why. It’s been 30 years since I, the Membership Chair, ran an autocross, so I should have registered as a novice, but there were so many Novice Class entrants, that I thought I’d have an easier time if I ran my box-stock Miata in E Street. Wrong! Those Cape Fear folks know how to treat novices right.

We’ve Lost Sam Overstreet!

The North Carolina Region has lost a dear friend. Sam Overstreet passed away early Friday morning, March 20th, after a lengthy illness. No services are planned and her husband, Mo, asks that you not contact him by phone. Also, if you’re going to send a card, don’t send a sad, gloomy one…try to be positive, maybe a fond remembrance of Sam. Mo’s had enough “sad” lately!

Triangle Chapter Report – March 2015

The Triangle Chapter meeting for March was a rousing success, despite it being only a couple of days before our first race of the season. While many regular attendees were absent, no doubt working feverishly to get the cars ready for the “March Into Spring” event, those who came out got to visit with our resident pro driver Tom Long. Tom was in town and also planning to attend the race because he had a couple of clients he was coaching. Let’s hope they do well!
