Y’all Come to the NCR Picnic! – UPDATE w/Registration Link

The North Carolina Region Picnic will be held on September 28th in NE Guilford County, at North East Park, 4010 High Rock Road, Gibsonville. We’ll get started about 9am and have the park until 8pm. We have secured the use of one of the larger shelters, which will accommodate more than 100. This is a large park with several features that should be of interest to all ages of your family. A new train has just been installed, a Carousel, miniature Golf, and ball fields of many types.

Speaking of ball fields, the West Chapter thought that a game between the Chapters would be a great idea. They invite you to bring the kids and whatever sporting goods they might want to use as there are varied playfields for our use.

The NC Region will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and soft drinks. To fill out the food and make the event a True NCR event, please bring a bowl of your favorite picnic fare.

Please note: This venue allows us to bring and consume BEER as our ONLY alcoholic beverage and ONLY IN CANS. Additionally, it may ONLY be consumed in Shelter #2 and NO OTHER PART OF THE PARK. And, don’t forget that we have to be out of the park by 8:00pm.

And…don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience a little bit of history!

Registration is here.

Anyone who would like to help out, please contact Buddy Matthews at 336-312-8858 or 336-617-8138 or redstarracing@triad.rr.com.

Report on the SCCA National Convention

by John Lindquist, Assistant Regional Executive

I will surely leave something out, but not on purpose. My first SCCA National Convention and it was worth the trip! You see I am not a gambler so the trip was for the Convention. I did, however, lose $4 showing my wife, Annie, how the slot machines worked. There you have it, bet $4 and lost $4, just what I expected!

Now to the reason for the trip… It seems like it was well attended by folks from all over the country, lots of RE’s and specialty chiefs. One of the first things Jerry Pell and myself did notice, was that the majority of the folks attending were…well, we will just say past mid-life. This was somewhat understandable since travel, work and the like would keep several non-retired folks away.

North Carolina Region Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner 2012

The NCR Annual meeting and awards dinner was held Saturday, January 5th, at Caffé Luna in Raleigh.  Over a hundred members attended and the festivities were in high gear.  The food was out of this world!  The buffet featured something for every one, from fresh fruit and cheese, through chilled salmon and shrimp cocktail, sliced ham, grilled sausage, steak, chicken, four kinds of pasta, asparagus and other veggies, and of course, salad. If you left hungry, it was your own fault! All drinks including beer and wines were included in the meal and that kept the conversation going until we went through the buffet line table-by-table. Many thanks to Bibi Tucker for setting all this up!

Carolina Collector Car Fest

RALEIGH, NC (NCR-SCCA) – The North Carolina Region was well-represented at the Carolina Collector Car Fest held in Raleigh at the State Fairgrounds over the weekend of November 11 – 13, 2011. Two members, Sam Fouse and Boz Marchi, graciously volunteered to display their cars, fresh from 1st place wins at the Goblins Go. Sam’s meticulously-prepared MX-3 was the hit of gear heads from all over, who marveled at the Dennis Shaw-built motor and the superb fabrication by Dan Robeson, both Triangle Chapter members. Boz Marchi’s lovely blue F500 attracted show-goers of all ages, quite literally from age five to seventy-five. The older gentleman even took notes. We may just see him at a future event!
