F&C Newsletter – October 15, 2012

North Carolina Region SCCA F&C

The Next 2 Weekends

You saw the last newsletter. This one has no bad news. OK, maybe, depending on if you’re a Flag Chief chomping at the bit for workers or a worker who can’t make one of the events and will be missing out on all the cool worker gifts and stuff. But not near as bad as last time. So don’t just look at this one…READ it.

YOU! GO HERE!

Registration is still online at Motorsportreg

NCR Worker Incentive Program information and redemption form. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Seriously. You really, REALLY don’t wanna miss out on the deadline of November 30th for “reimbursement.” Print out the form, fill it out, stuff an envelope with this & some receipts & get that sucker in the mail!

Make SUUUURE to check the weather forecast for the events you are working. Especially the 13-Hour. Anyone who has previously worked one will tell you that when the forecast says “chilly,” when the sun goes down it’s down right COLD. Prepare accordingly.

North Carolina Region SCCA F&C

The Month We Have All Been Waiting For

Have you felt the chill in the air? Have you noticed the foliage changing colors? Summer is officially over (for anyone who no longers gets a “summer break” to designate such). Time for cider, pumpkin spice everything, spooks & more race events in our own region.

There have been some exciting race events since last we converged at VIR and there are more to come.

In your spare time check out the following handy dandy links:

Our Condolences to Chuck Hines

The members of the North Carolina Region express our sincere condolences to fellow member and accomplished racer Chuck Hines on the sudden passing of his mother, Emogene Lucille Hines.  Mrs. Hines, of Cameron, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Hillmon Grove Church in Cameron followed by burial in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at a visitation at the Adcock Funeral Home & Crematory in Spring Lake, North Carolina, adjacent to Fort Bragg and Pope Army Air Base, on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Phil Hennrich Update

Phil HennrichUPDATE (10/11/12): Phil’s old race cars and trailers are for sale here.

RALEIGH, NC – (NCRSCCA) – “Hey! Where’s ‘Radio Phil?’” is a question we’ve been hearing at VIR since the 13-hour enduro of last October.  Well, Phil Hennrich, also known as “Mr. Equipment” is alive and well at the Wake Assisted Living facility in Raleigh.  A 38-year veteran of this club and long-time volunteer, Phil wore a variety of hats over the years, including Solo Safety Steward, Rally Steward, Club Treasurer, and competition driver, as well as F&C and radio tech (yes, Carolina, he has an SCCA license in that specialty too!).  And, if I am not mistaken, he may still hold the SCCA class record in GT3 on the VIR Grand Course in his Pinto.

Need Some Additional Track Time at VIR? Read on…

THSCC HPDE & Time Trial SeriesRALEIGH, NC — (NCRSCCA) — The Tar Heel Sports Car Club (THSCC) has announced that they are adding a “test and tune” group to their April 7-8 HPDE/TT at VIR (see below). This is a big plus for our folks as it means that SCCA racers with competition licenses and logbooks who are looking for some track time to tweak their cars or their driving skills, can now participate. They also note that their student run groups are only about half full right now, so there is still lots of room for those who want to do the school. (Thanks to Mark Senior for this “heads up”!)

Checkered Flag – Dave Page

Dave Page

Very sad news. I received the following email from Vicki Wilson on Saturday, Aug 13:

Hello SCCA folks,
This is Vicki Wilson, former flagging and communications worker. Most of you know Dave Page who also flagged for many years. Dave passed away this morning at Duke Med Center following a brief illness. Funeral arrangements are listed below and I am trying to help the family notify his many friends. I also sent an announcement to James Shanks asking him to notify folks. I have been in contact with Dwight and Chuck.

Thank you for spreading the word.

Vicki

Timberlake, NC (NCR SCCA) — After an extended period without much communication regarding Region business between the NC Region Board of Directors and the NCR membership — no newsletter for almost a year, no BoD meeting minutes and only sporadic Chapter and RE reports while the website was being upgraded — we now hope to rectify that situation by having all of the above posted here, on the NCR website.
