Y’all Come to the NCR Picnic! – UPDATE w/Registration Link

The North Carolina Region Picnic will be held on September 28th in NE Guilford County, at North East Park, 4010 High Rock Road, Gibsonville. We’ll get started about 9am and have the park until 8pm. We have secured the use of one of the larger shelters, which will accommodate more than 100. This is a large park with several features that should be of interest to all ages of your family. A new train has just been installed, a Carousel, miniature Golf, and ball fields of many types.

Speaking of ball fields, the West Chapter thought that a game between the Chapters would be a great idea. They invite you to bring the kids and whatever sporting goods they might want to use as there are varied playfields for our use.

The NC Region will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and soft drinks. To fill out the food and make the event a True NCR event, please bring a bowl of your favorite picnic fare.

Please note: This venue allows us to bring and consume BEER as our ONLY alcoholic beverage and ONLY IN CANS. Additionally, it may ONLY be consumed in Shelter #2 and NO OTHER PART OF THE PARK. And, don’t forget that we have to be out of the park by 8:00pm.

And…don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience a little bit of history!

Registration is here.

Anyone who would like to help out, please contact Buddy Matthews at 336-312-8858 or 336-617-8138 or redstarracing@triad.rr.com.

West Chapter Report – August 2013

The West Chapter meeting was called to order at 7:35pm at Cooper’s Ale House at 5340 W. Market Street in Greensboro. Most of the final count of 16 attendees of the meeting had been there approximately 1 hour, eating from Cooper’s full menu, drinking, and sharing small talk with their friends.

The first order of the meeting was to go quickly over the agenda of the July Meeting of the NCR BOD. This section of the meeting was covered by Buddy Matthews, West Chapter Coordinator. It was reported that several items of the BOD agenda were reported to have been treated like our National (USA) representatives and “kicked down the road”.

Triangle Chapter Report – August 2013

The August meeting of the Triangle Chapter was well attended, despite the heat, though we had no in-car video to share. Still, we had a great time, with a wonderful mixture of old and new friends. We saw some faces we hadn’t seen in quite some time, like Carl Cason and Dennis Shaw, as well as some new members, such as Damon Hunter and motorsports journalist Tim Wolford. Ric Cooley was back from his first Formula Ford race at Road Atlanta, where I think he was third. Congratulations, Ric!  By the way, he still needs crew help, he said. Someone wanna volunteer to help him get a first next time?

Congratulations were in order for some other attendees, too. Recent member Reid Garret announced that he was engaged to his lady Rebecca, whom he brought along so she could meet the group, while Tricia and Rex Deffenbaugh announced that they were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary! Wow! Both ends of the matrimonial spectrum in the same room at once!  How cool is that? And Sam Fouse rounded out the picture by telling us that his son had gotten married the previous weekend, with the son of another member acting as his best man. That really proves what they say about the SCCA. “I came for the cars, but I stayed for the people.” Congratulations to you all!
