March XX, 2013

So the 2013 Race Season is barreling forward. The 24 Hours of Daytona, The 12-Hours of Sebring, St. Pete’s (which many of your fellow flaggers helped staff…stay tuned for pictures) and our local March Memories have come and gone. Time to start (finish?) planning for the upcoming Double National at our own VIR.

BFGoodrich Tires VIR Super Tour: Oak Tree Double National

April 19th – April 21st

Unlike most of our events held on Saturdays and Sundays, this time there’s an extra day to come out and play (and receive a $35 punch). Be part of the Friday crew. Plan this now as for most of you this will include taking time off from the job that pays the bills. The linked schedule below will aid you in making your plans.

Report on the SCCA National Convention

by John Lindquist, Assistant Regional Executive

I will surely leave something out, but not on purpose. My first SCCA National Convention and it was worth the trip! You see I am not a gambler so the trip was for the Convention. I did, however, lose $4 showing my wife, Annie, how the slot machines worked. There you have it, bet $4 and lost $4, just what I expected!

Now to the reason for the trip… It seems like it was well attended by folks from all over the country, lots of RE’s and specialty chiefs. One of the first things Jerry Pell and myself did notice, was that the majority of the folks attending were…well, we will just say past mid-life. This was somewhat understandable since travel, work and the like would keep several non-retired folks away.

Triangle Chapter Report – March 2013

The March meeting of the Triangle Chapter was surprisingly well-attended despite it being just three days ahead of the first NCR racing event at VIR.  Perhaps because no one has been out of town racing recently, ‘cause they were getting ready for our event, there was no in-car video to share, but the conversation was lively and spirited.  We even had a couple of new faces join us, as well as a couple of guys from last time who came back.  Returning new member Ric Cooley was there.  He’s taking his newly-purchased Citation Formula Ford to Summit Point in two weeks for the driver’s school there, and he is looking for crew help.  Any volunteers?  And Brandon Miller was there as well, eagerly looking to attend his first racing event over the weekend.  Member at Large Wayne Quick, who will be driving an IT-7 over the weekend, signed them up for his crew.  Have a good time, guys! See you there!
